The Path of The Righteous

The path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter. If you were to watch the sun coming up in the morning, to start with, it's just like a little bit of light creeping over the horizon... but before long, everything is flooded with light! This is a perfect picture of the Kingdom of God and it's how He intends for us to live!

Yet how did you respond when I started with that phrase? Did you feel frustrated because you can't see the 'brighter and brighter' in your life? Did you feel hopeful that this is in fact the kind of life that you can walk in (if you are not already)? Or did you know the truth of that scripture to be reality for you and it was more affirmation than anything else? If you're at all like I once was, you might be feeling a mixture of frustration and hope... frustration around why on earth this 'brighter and brighter' life is not happening. But hope that indeed it can, because God's word says it can.

This scripture tells us that a life of continual increase is God's will for us all. It also tells us where we're at - whether we're living in the Kingdom of God, or whether we're just living in the world!

It's a win-win for us either way, because if we find ourselves living in the world, we can just change address (in our hearts) and start walking in this life of continual increase of the Kingdom! But it begins with knowing where we're currently at. Here is the litmus test:

If we are living in the Kingdom of God in an area of our lives, we are going to see increase in that area. If we are not living in the Kingdom of God in an area of our lives, we will see stagnation or decrease.

Do you understand how profound that is? You see, many people consider themselves to be Christians... but they have no idea what the Kingdom of God is or how on earth to live in it. I was certainly one of those people at one point. However, when you are willing to look at your life and go, 'I'm not seeing continual increase,' it is a such a relief because you can then stop blaming God or thinking that you're not one of the 'lucky' ones, and just realise you're simply not yet walking in the Kingdom of God, and start to learn how to.

Now, if our lives aren't looking like the Kingdom, He doesn't want us to feel condemned. But what He does want is for us to realise that this this is the expectation we should have, that everything in our lives gets better and better. And if we've not been experiencing life like that thus far, this is not 'as good as it gets' - there's so much more to look forward to!

I've got to say, this bit of revelation bothered me initially. It probably offended me, in fact. Why? Because when I took a good, hard look at my life, I had to realise that it wasn't really increasing in every area. I mean, I was growing in the Lord, my character was becoming more aligned with Him, but my finances, for example? They certainly were solidly in the world because they sure weren't increasing!

It's a bit confronting to realise that all the while we blamed God for not coming through for us financially, we thought we were waiting on Him, and couldn't figure out why it wasn't happening... we actually just weren't operating in the Kingdom of God. At that point, you can either turn away and ignore the rest of the revelation in disgust... or you can humbly say, 'OK Lord then, show me how to function in the Kingdom.'

When it hit me that my excuses for lack of financial increase were only that - excuses - and that there was a full supply available for me in the Kingdom of God... when I realised that if I wasn't experiencing it, then it wasn't because God was missing it, but because my heart was not fully aligned with Him, that was a very freeing moment! Because when your excuses are gone, and the promised land is before you, and the only difference between whether you're standing in the wilderness or the promised land is your own heart, you can decide powerfully in that moment to choose to function in the Kingdom. Why? Because it's not far out there, it's not unreachable... Jesus said that the Kingdom of God is within us!

That means every provision you need is within you right now. Every healing, every deliverance, every word of wisdom, every strategy, every strength that you need to flourish in life and fulfil all you were created to do is within you right now. Your heart is the pipe that flows between your spirit (where all of this is contained) and the rest of your life.

So I decided to turn on the tap. I decided to believe what the Lord was showing me in His word to be true. I decided to repent from functioning in the world's system and apply myself to learning how to function in the Kingdom of God. And what do you know? The money started coming in!

It came in bills paid instead of being in shortfall. Then it came in small increases. Then it came in larger increases. It didn't matter that I wasn't yet seeing the fulfillment of the highest and biggest financial dreams I had. There was increase, and it was enough to show me that I was finally operating in the Kingdom, and that if I just continued the journey and stayed on that path, I would see every financial dream that was in my heart because the Kingdom would take me there. The key was, and is, to be in the Kingdom.

The Kingdom in Your Heart

You may ask, 'Well what is the Kingdom?' To tell you the truth, it took me a little while to get my head around the Kingdom of God. When we hear the word 'kingdom', we tend to think of it in the same terms as a kingdom in the world. But the Kingdom of God is not a physical kingdom. Jesus didn't come as a wordly king, with an army as many expected Him to. He didn't bring an external kingdom, He didn't conquor territory. In fact, He willingly laid down His life... and by so doing, the Kingdom He was carrying become far more powerful than the kingdom of the world.

He told us that the Kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21). He told the woman at the well that people would no longer worship God on a mountain or a place, but they would worship Him in Spirit and in truth (John 4:21). He explained that the Kingdom of God is righteousnes, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:7), which are facets that come from our heart, not from outside of us.

This is the Kingdom that overrides the darkness. It brings healing when there's no hope. It brings provision where there is lack. It comes from the inside out, from the spirit of Christ who lives within us. It's His ways of doing things, His righteousness. That's why we can offer the solutions to the world and the wisdom of God. That's why we can lay hands on the sick and they can get well. Because we carry the Kingdom of God within us.

This Kingdom has a way of fulfilling every promise. The Kingdom is within us and carries the reign and provision of heaven, which God intends for us to channel and distribute throughout the earth. The Kingdom is essentially His Life in us!

The Continually Increasing Kingdom

Wherever the Kingdom is, there is increase, because the very DNA of the Kingdom - which is Christ Himself - is increase.

When Jesus' birth was prophesied in Isaiah, look at how His 'government' (His Kingdom) was described:

What did it say there will be no end of? INCREASE! The Kingdom (government) that Jesus brought when He came to the earth is an ever increasing Kingdom!

Did things diminish or get better when Jesus was on the earth? Everywhere He went, people got healthier and they prospered. Those who were once blind could see and those who were once deaf could hear. The boy with the loaves and fish ended up with 12 baskets of food! The disciples who fished all night and caught nothing had a net full of fish when they followed His instructions and put their nets on the other side of the boat. Well Jesus is still on the earth! His Spirit lives within us, therefore there should be continual, ongoing increase.

There are so many other places where we see this as well. God has always been about increase for those who would align their hearts with Him and obey Him. I mean, stop and think about it - the very first words He spoke to Adam were to bless him and to tell him to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28). This wasn't a command - it was an empowerment! He empowered man to do what? Increase!

What happened when Isaac planted seed in famine?

It didn't matter that He started in a place of famine, and it won't matter for you either. You can start in a place where your life might look like famine in one or more areas, but the moment that you get on the path of the righteous, the moment that you follow the wind of Holy Spirit, the moment you align yourself with the truth of your new man, you start to walk in that glory to glory, multiplication life where there’s increase until you come to the point where you’re seeing your wide-open, spacious life and there’s victory on every side!

Which brings us to the next scripture:

This is God’s MO - from glory to glory, from increase to increase! This scripture tells us that's how we can live. If the spirit of God comes into any place, things get better and better. If the spirit of the Lord has the freedom to operate in a family… a community… it… a nation… it gets better. People come into blessing, they come into peace, they come into joy, they find their identity, they find their purpose, they step into doing the good works that were prepared for them before the foundation of the world, there’s manifestation of promise, there’s physical and emotional healing, there’s restoration of finances. It’s always better.

The flow of the spirit of God IS the Kingdom of God, and it always brings increase, because that is who He is!

Get on the Path of the Righteous

So this brings us back to the question we need answered today. It doesn't matter whether you're applying it financially, relationally, in your health, your character, your God assignments or any other area of your life. Is there continual increase? Or is there stagnation and/or insufficiency?

If there's increase from level to level, we can know that we're on the path of the righteous. We might not be seeing the fullness of the Kingdom yet, but where there's increase and manifestation of more, there's the Kingdom, so if we'll just stay on the path of the righteous, we'll see the outcome we desire.

If there's stagnation and/or insufficiency, we simply need to face the responsibility that we're not functioning fully in the Kingdom of God and ask the Lord to show us how to.

It's important to understand that there's never any middle ground, because everything either proceeds from one kingdom or the other. If we're not growing (increasing), we're diminishing (decreasing). Which makes it very important to deliberately choose to function in the Kingdom of God.

So today, be willing to evaluate your life with an open and honest heart, and find out where your heart is really at. The continually increasing path of the righteous is available to you today. Change address in your heart, get on the right path and then never get off it. Everything the Lord has placed in your heart will then be your inevitable destination.
