Where Is Your Creek?

Do you ever feel like there's more? That while you know your King, there's a deeper realm of relationship with Him and knowing His heart that you haven't yet walked in? That there's mysteries in His Kingdom that you want to understand, or inheritance you want to know how to live in, yet you're not sure how to reach the more?

I can tell you one thing for sure - the more comes when you spend more time with Him. And not just more frequent time with Him, but longer lengths of time with Him. The more is not found in a quick devotional or in a conversation you have with Him while you're on the run. The more is found when you meet with Him at your creek.

Your creek is your place of intimacy, rest and revelation. It's the place where you go with Holy Spirit to have extended time with Him - not five minutes or even half an hour, but hours at a time. Where there are no interruptions, and He can share all that He wants to with you. And in case you haven't slowed down enough to hear it, I promise you He is inviting you there.

The phrase, 'your creek', first came to me when I was sharing with women at a coaching retreat about how the Lord has been calling me to spend extended time with Him. Holy Spirit initially invited me to meet Him down at the creek for a picnic, which was an awesome time in which He spoke many special things to my heart. After that, He challenged me to spend extended and regular time with Him, and it was down at the creek where I continued to go and meet with Him. The ladies picked up on this phrase as I shared the story with them, and it stuck. Before long, they were talking about where their own creek was.

Your creek will always be an uninterrupted place, where you can experience rest and peace, and clearly hear His voice and feel His presence. For me, that is out in the beauty of nature. It may not be a literal, physical creek for you, but it will be wherever Holy Spirit invites you to meet with Him and will become 'your creek.' I can say this confidently because I know that many are hearing His invitation to 'come down to the creek' - and are responding to it.

He is asking them for big and regular chunks of their time - a half day or a full day each week. And though they are busy and initially don't know how they're going to do it, I'm watching many answer His invitation and their lives are changing as a result.

The latest such example I have encountered was a beautiful woman in a remote country town who recently told us that God had instructed her to start spending a whole day with Him, and that she wasn't to do anything else on that day. Her beautiful, obedient heart had already changed her schedule and her commitments to protect that time, and she had told her family about it so they would also understand her committment to not be doing other things on that weekday. This woman already had a full plate, but she so valued the voice of her King that she asked Him for the strategy about how to do it, and moved her life around accordingly, culling what she needed to. She was willing to schedule her life AROUND her time with her King. Are you?

Why? Why would the Lord be asking His people, who He knows are already obviously living busy and full lives, to put aside big chunks of time to spend with Him? Because He knows that it's the only way we're going to walk in all He has for us, and the only way He can get us safely through the challenges in front of us.

We actually think that all of our busyness is going to get us the promises - that if we'll just do and do and do, we'll make it. We still don't understand that God can do in one moment supernaturally, more than we can do in a year naturally. Spending time with Him is like the great accelerator, where things are accomplished in His presence, we receive blueprints from heaven, and we avoid wasting our time on things that are not part of that blueprint.

Yet it's even more than that - the invitation that is resounding at the moment it's like a clarion call from Holy Spirit, a great identifier and heavenly filter. He is watching who is and who is not responding to this call, because He knows that this will identify to Him who He can trust in this hour. He is looking for those, in our nation and others, who can be trusted with the keys of the Kingdom that He wants to release in each of our nations. He will not and cannot share them with those who don't follow the wind of Holy Spirit wherever He is leading, or give Him the time that He needs, to download it to them.

He is also inviting us to the creek for our protection. He needs us to know His voice to the degree that we will recognise His slightest whisper or nudge, so that He can safely guide us through the things that we may need to navigate.

The Lord wants to do amazing things on the earth - never-before-seen things! Yet He needs a people who will sit long enough with Him to uncover His mysteries, and be empowered to walk in what He is asking us to. He is longing for His children to say 'yes' to His invitation.

It's time for us to step up. We have to find our creek and make plans to be there. We have to find that time and place where we can get away from everything that is distracting, and not have an end time agenda, but just be there as long as it takes for Him to unlock and unfold to us what He wants to show us.

Of course, we could choose NOT to take up His invitation. We can keep rushing through life doing what we've always done... and do you know what's going to happen if we do that? We're going to get what we've always gotten.

Your Place of Intimacy

You will never know that you know that you know that you know that you are loved more, than when you start spending extended time with Holy Spirit at your creek, with no other distractions. We always seem to have ourselves on our minds... how busy we are, how we're going to fit in 'time with God.' But when you find yourself hearing His whispers as you sit with Him at your creek, you'll quickly start to realise the magnitude of love and value that He has towards you - the Creator of the world (and indeed the universe) Who has so many things to attend to, chooses to sit there and be with YOU!

Guaranteed, it won't be long before your sense of being loved and cherished will overwhelm you and His love will truly become the very source and root of your life. It is your experience of His love for you that causes your life to be green and flourishing. We gloss over 'the love of God' as being something we learned in Sunday School, but it is the deepest and most needed thing in the universe... not a head knowledge of being loved by God, but a heart experience of it. When this is the source of your life, you will finally know who you really are, and there will be nothing that you cannot do in Him.

When two people fall in love, it is nothing for them to spend extended blocks of time with one another, whether that be long daytime picnics or spending half the night on the phone together, finding out the unknown things about one another. It is no different with Holy Spirit. He is described as the person of the Holy Spirit, He loves you, and if you'll spend extended time with Him, you'll know things about Him that some who have spent a lifetime sitting on pews have never known or heard. You will encounter and experience His love for you and His character. And you will know the sound of His gentle whisper or the sense of His nudge, and He will be able to direct you into the amazing life that He has created you for.

Your Place of Rest

The secret place is a place of rest, because it's in rest that we hear His voice. Why don't we know the voice of Holy Spirit or our full Kingdom inheritance? Because most of His people do not even know how to come into a place of rest and quieten their hearts for long enough to hear the still, small voice of Holy Spirit speaking to them. We've been too busy trying to fit in a ten minute devotional before we run out the door. When we sit down to do a quick 'quiet time', our bodies might have stopped, but our heads and hearts haven't. We need to learn how to sit and stay somewhere long enough to enter into a place of true physical and emotional rest.

It's actually only from a place of rest that we can hear His voice clearly, or see from heaven's perspective. It's all about being in alignment with what is going on in the spiritual realm. Heaven is not in a panic, yet our bodies and minds are usually running on a treadmill and we wonder why we're not experiencing the supernatural or why we can't see the big picture of what's going on. We're on two totally different wavelengths.

Rest isn't just for our sakes. It's the biggest key to hearing the voice of Holy Spirit. It's also key to experiencing His Presence and love.

It's amazing how many times the Bible talks about rest, and receiving His love, together.

Notice that this scripture says, WE are at rest in this love. Do you realise that it’s not only a place of rest and love for YOU? It’s a place of rest and love for HIM! He’s actually at rest in this love, the love He has for you. He longs for this time together with you. He so desires for you to get away from everything else that you’re doing and come down to your creek and be with Him.

Your Place of Revelation

Your creek is also a place of revelation and strategy. We can’t walk out the new things He wants us to walk out without uncovering and understanding the deeper revelations He wants to share with us.

Guess what!? There's things we don't know, and that we need to know in order to live the wide-open, spacious life He has for us... and He wants to show them to us! He is longing for someone to open up the treasure vault of revelation long enough that He can share His most valuable mysteries with them.

You don't uncover the mysteries by reading somebody else's devotional, but by listening for Him to share understanding directly to your heart. Why feast on secondhand revelation when you could receive directly from His heart to yours?

We have been trained to listen to man, instead of hearing the whisper of Holy Spirit directly to our hearts. Are we willing to consider everything else we get from others as a bonus, but to not be satisfied until we hear the secrets of heaven whispered directly to our own hearts by the Spirit of God?

Paul said, 'I want you to understand that the gospel message I preach is not based on mere human reasoning. I received my message from no human source, and no one taught me. Instead, I received it by direct revelation from Jesus Christ' (Gal 1:11 - 12 NLT). This is how Paul received the revelation that He preached. It didn't come from human reasoning or teaching, but He received it directly from Jesus, by revelation to His heart.

Do we think Paul would have been the immovable, unshakeable and unoffendable apostle of the Lord that he was had he simply got what he received secondhand? You know that something is true when you hear God Himself whisper it to your own heart. That is the conviction that carried Paul on his assignment, and God is looking for a people who want to hear what He has to say, and are no longer satisfied being spoon fed by others.

Sometimes Holy Spirit needs to dig deeply within you, to be able to show you some things. Sometimes He has to align your heart with His love and His rest first, before you can actually hear what He is wanting to tell you. When you allow Him to dig in and align your heart with His, you'll find you start to experience suddenlies - you'll just instantly have understanding drop into your heart, your questions will be answered, or you'll suddenly know the strategy to get you to the place Holy Spirit has told you that you will go.

Dave Hogson started spending a day per week with Holy Spirit, when he was a very busy businessman and didn't have time to. He literally bought a jetski and took himself up a river so far that he was out of mobile service. This became a time of prayer where strategies from heaven were downloaded to Him. No surprises that he now runs a billion dollar business, because the creek is a place of revelation. If you think you know what you need to know to walk in the vision God has given you for your life, you're not thinking big enough. Your vision should be so big that you HAVE to have the strategies from heaven to actually walk in it.

This is what our lives are supposed to look like... trees laden with fresh fruit... fruit that is for the healing of the nations. Consider yourselves as the fruit trees on either side of the revelation of life and the spirit that’s coming from the throne room. There’s always something fresh and new. The trees on either side with their roots dug down deeply are always fruitful, they’re never up and down.

The people who will spend time, extended time down the creek are going to be able to receive the blueprints and the solutions for the replacement Kingdom systems in the world. He has the solutions for every problem in the world, and He is looking for those who will listen, and when the systems of the world have proven that they actually have no answers, He'll display His answers through you!

If you will choose to spend extended and regular time down the creek with Holy Spirit and drink from the river that flows from the throne room, you will never be the same again. Everything that He has planted in your heart will come to fruitfulness and fulfilment and you will be used in God’s plan for the restoration and transformation of the nations.

How Do Practically Get to Your Creek

If you're like most women, you may be thinking, 'That sounds really good, but how on earth will I fit creek time into my life?' If that's the question you're asking, then may I suggest you're actually asking the wrong question. The question which will lead you to answer you're after is actually, 'How can I fit my life around my time with God?'

Yes, literally. I understand what it is to have responsibilities and children to raise, and an overwhelming to do list. Yet I stand by this question, as the only way you will be able to hear the answer Holy Spirit wants to show you. He will have a strategy that will work for you and your life. It may be different to what He tells your friend or what He tells me, but it will be just right for you and most of all, it will be possible for you.

Just say 'Yes' to His invitation. I can promise you that after you taste it, you will long to be down at your creek with Him. There’ll be such anticipation for it in your life, you’ll never know how you ever lived without this time with Him. And your life will never look the same again!
