How to Finish What You Planned to Accomplish This Year

It happens pretty much this same time every year. We hear people start to talk about the end of year as though it's already over. They start the count down to Christmas, realise how close it is, and mentally give up on accomplishing what they thought they could in the year. Quite frankly, on one hand I wish people wouldn't talk about the end of the year when it's only three quarters of the way through it... on the other hand, it kind of gives us a good nudge to make us realise that if we're serious about accomplishing something we felt God wanted us to do during the year, then we may need to focus to get it done.

For me, it happened a couple of weeks ago. When I first heard someone tell me how many weeks there were until Christmas, I had to catch myself as well. It was like this moment of overwhelming, 'Oh well those things I wanted to get done aren't going to get finished in that timeframe' washed over me. Whether it was my flesh reasoning or whether it was an arrow from the enemy to try to get me to agree with His plan for the rest of my year, Holy Spirit was certainly not in agreement with it. He immediately and very clearly said to me, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? THERE'S STILL A QUARTER OF THE YEAR TO GO! A LOT CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED IN THAT TIME IF YOU FOCUS.

He then went on to show me how far I've come on so many projects and that many of them are near the finish line. To give up on completing them this year would be to put me behind the plans He has for me in the coming year and that instead, He wants me to give these projects my laser like focus and walk by the faith of the Son of God in me who knows how to finish what He starts (Philippians 1:6).

Of course, that same 'It-is-finished' Spirit of Christ also lives in you! There's assignments He's given you this year that He wants to be completed because He'll have fresh ones for the coming year. We are a royal people who live in advance, not constantly catching up from behind. So if you know you heard from the Lord about accomplishing something this year, then it's important for you to get it done too. Not only to stay in His timing, but victory is sweet. It is the fruit of a sonship mindset.

Slaves don't think about accomplishment, they just have their nose to the grind and one day is the same as the next. Yet sons have royal assignments from heaven, and the only way to fulfil the assignment is to complete it, which inevitably brings a sense of victory and affirms that we are sons and not slaves. It also shows that we are prioritising what our Father has entrusted to us. We can't walk in sonship without valuing victory. We want to be able able to say, 'I completed down to the last detail what you asked me to, Father', just as Jesus did (John 17:4). If we don't value completion in a year, how will we see completion over a lifetime?

Sometimes I think that as a body, we also don't really understand how victory and accomplishment actually works. It's like we think because God told us to something that it's going to hit us up the side of the head while we sit there and pray. That's not how it happens. We are supernaturally natural. We are spirit, soul and body. While Holy Spirit is most certainly giving us revelation, bringing Divine connections, and both He and our angels are working on our behalf to do the things we cannot do, we're still responsible to do the things we can do, and sometimes the wisdom of the situation is just to give it focus and extra attention until it is done. (Of course, I share more about this whole topic in my book, Set Your Heart to Succeed... which, incidentally, is one of the projects Holy Spirit wants me to get done yet this year! There you go, public accountability!)

So, I've made a decision. I'm not going out of this year with things half done that He asked me to complete. And if by reading this blog, you've come to the same conclusion, I want to invite you to join me on what Holy Spirit is calling, The Sixty Day Sprint!

He actually directed me while I was sleeping in what was like a dream but was very much just God telling me what I was to do. This is when He first told me to start group coaching. Then a little while after that He also showed me, in the early hours of the morning, to do a 60 day sprint and to invite others into is as a group coaching option. Why is group coaching so powerful? Well, it's like coaching on steroids! Coaching is amazing for bringing the tools and accountability to move forward in your life and walk in the victory you know has been promised to you by Jesus. Yet when you become part of a coaching group, you'll also discover that there's nothing more powerful, fun or encouraging than journeying together with a group of other believers who are also focused on walking in victory! It brings momentum to the next level.

There really is no room for procrastination in the Kingdom of God. I feel like this is the scripture Holy Spirit has given me about this 60 Day Sprint - notice that 'four months time' is now next year. In other words - don't put off until next year, what you can accomplish this year with some focus! Focus is the key. And if you haven't accomplished what's been in your heart for a while, a lack of focus might be the very reason it hasn't happened yet.

This story sounds like some people's new years resolutions - and sadly, sometimes my own. Holy Spirit led me to this story when He was showing me that the way to not keep having the same goals unachieved year after year, is to do exactly what this gardener did. He gave it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. What might happen if you do the same with the dreams you're carrying in your heart? The 60 Day Sprint is designed to do just that.
